Measurement guide

Introduction

In order to ensure a perfectly fitted shirt, it's essential to take your measurements carefully with a measuring tape. Once you have taken your measurements, these will be stored for future reference in your personal section of the web site so that you won't need to re-enter them. It should only take about 5 minutes to take the complete set of measurements.

It's important to remember that when taking all measurements, the measuring tape should never be pulled too tightly; this will give a more accurate measurement of the actual body dimension. It's better to round up measurements to the nearest 1/2" or cm rather than down if they fall in between just to be on the safe side.

The following is a step by step guide for taking measurements for our made to measure shirts.

Neck Measurement

Set the measuring tape low in the back of the neck, and bring it around to the front to where the collar will button. Measure all the way around the neck, taking care not to pull the tape too tightly. We'll add half an inch onto this measurement to give the finished collar size.

Chest Measurement

Place the measuring tape around the body at the fullest part of the chest (usually just below the armpits), while inhaling fully, to ensure your largest chest measurement. This will ensure a comfortable fit. We'll add 7.5" (generous fit), 6.25" (standard fit), or 5" (close fit) to the measurement you supply here to give the finished shirt chest size.

Stomach measurement

Place the tape measure around the body at the fullest part of the stomach above the trouser belt line. Again, don't pull the tape too tightly. We'll add 7" (generous fit), 5.5 " (standard fit), or 4.25 " (close fit) to the measurement you supply here to give the finished shirt stomach size.

Seat Measurement

Place the measuring tape all the way around the broadest part of the seat (where the buttocks are fullest), keeping the tape measure horizontal. We'll add 7.5" (generous fit), 6.25" (standard fit), or 5" (close fit) to the measurement you supply here to give the finished shirt seat size.

Shoulders Measurement

While wearing your best fitting shirt, from behind, measure between the two shoulder seams across the back of the shoulders as shown in the picture.

Arms Measurement

While wearing your best fitting shirt, straightening the arm, measure from where you took the shoulder measurement (at the shoulder seam), down to just past the wrist bone, where the arm meets the hand. The finished sleeve length will be 2" longer than the measurement you give here.

Back Length Measurement

While wearing the shirt, place the measuring tape at the base of the collar and then measure down the centre of the back to just below the lowest part of the seat (just below where the seat meets the legs). Please ensure that the measurement is taken down to the very bottom of the seat to ensure a generous tail length.

Wrist Measurements

Place the tape measure around the wrist at the wristbone. If you wear a large watch, add an additional 1/2 inch to that wrist measurement to allow for it. We'll add 1.75" to the wrist measurements to give the finished cuff size, which will be the distance between the button or buttonhole on one side to the buttonhole on the other side of the cuff.
