Long sleeve shirts - achieving the perfect sleeve length
Long sleeve shirts require the sleeve length to be perfect. Too long, and the sleeve will bunch up around the arm; too short, and the shirt will be very uncomfortable to wear.
There are a number of methods for measuring the length for long sleeve shirts. One method, used in off the peg shirts, requires the measurement to start at the base of the neck, and the measurement is taken down to the bottom of the sleeve (including the cuff), along the shoulders. The bottom of the sleeve in long sleeve shirts, again including the cuff, should finish just beyond the joint of the thumb, when the cuff is undone. A typical off the peg long sleeve shirt would measure about 33-37" using this technique.
At Curtis & Dyer, we have simplified the measurement for long sleeves. Our measurement guide asks for a simple measurement, taken from the shoulder seam of the shirt, down to the wrist bone, upon which we add an allowance to calculate the finished sleeve length. These are two well defined points and this method will ensure that we make your long sleeve shirt with the perfect sleeve length.
