Fitted shirts - measuring for a perfect fit

Properly fitted shirts give the wearer a flattering look and an added level of comfort, and the best way to achieve this fit is to choose the made to order route. There are a number of measurements that should be taken for a fitted shirt to give the perfect fit.

One of the most important measurements taken for well fitted shirts is the neck measurement, which should be taken by placing the measuring tape low in the back of the neck, and bringing it around to the front to where the collar will button. Three measurements around the trunk of the body should be taken, at the chest level, stomach, and seat. For slim fitted shirts, an allowance (the amount added on to the body measurement to give the finished shirt dimension) of about 5" on the chest will give good results.

The next measurements required for well fitted shirts are the shoulder and arm measurements. The shoulder measurement is taken from where the arm meets the shoulder across to the other side, and the arm measurement can from this point down to the wrist bone. Taking these measurements accurately will ensure that the sleeve of the fitted shirt is precisely the correct length.

Finally, wrist measurements should be taken, which will dictate the size of the cuff, and a back length measurement taken from the neck down to just below the seat.
